It is important to let your students have options while learning during their time in and out of the classroom. One of the best ways to keep your learners engaged is by using choice boards! There are many ways to use choice boards in the classroom and during distance learning. Choice boards can be used for all subjects and all times of the year.
Use Choice Boards to Celebrate Holidays
Holidays in the classroom are some of my best memories as a student myself! It is a time of year to celebrate! Choice boards are the perfect way to group activities for a certain holiday into options for students. Use choice boards during the first month of school, the week of Halloween, the week before Thanksgiving, the last couple of days school before Christmas break, and the end of the school year.
Cross Curriculum with Choice Boards
Cross curriculum is a teacher’s dream. Why not incorporate science into reading centers and incorporate math into a science topic?? Choice boards in the classroom or during distance learning allows for easy subject transition and allows teachers to include a variety of content.
Research Projects and Choice Boards
Research projects can be overwhelming for students! Choice boards can help break the research project into parts. Students also feel a sense of independence with the options to choose what activity to complete first. Parts of the board can be used as extra credit. Students will be able to explore a wide variety of a research topic with options.
